South Beach Local Information

south beach local information There is so much to do in South Beach, you could never possibly be bored. The main attractions of course the ocean, but even on land and away from the beach, there are plenty of venues featuring live music, cultural enrichment, festivals, and theatre. You could stay in South Beach for months and not exhaust the myriads of entertainment possibilities available.

One interesting little gathering not too many people know about is Festivart. It is a free display of local artists and their works. There is also live music to entertain, and the best part is that it is free. Festivart is every Saturday night from 8 pm to 1 am on the corner of Espanola Way and Washington Avenue, so take in a good meal and relax in the casual environment of Festivart.

There is also a good bit to do in the way of live theatre in South Beach. Horizon Repertory Theatre regularly presents good quality dramas at the Acorns Civic Theatre on Washington Avenue. Cafe Noir is another theatrical choice which combines two art forms: good food and good theatre. Cafe Noir's regular presentation is a spoof of 1940's film noir and comes with a four-course meal with wine or champagne as well. The cost is $50, about what you would expect to pay for a good meal and a live performance.

Just recently celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Great Balloon Race features multi-colored hot air balloons released and forming a beautiful tapestry across the morning sky. Admission is free and there is also food, children's activities, musical performers and a pancake breakfast. The event is held at Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport in Miami, and it begins at 5:30 am, so get a good night's rest and come see the balloons. Another unusual event just outside South Beach is the Coconut Grove Bed Race. Contestants line up in their beds at Peacock Park and race through the streets of Coconut Grove. It is a wonderful fundraiser for charity and a once in a lifetime experience for your vacation!

No doubt South Beach has what it takes to make your vacation a memorable one, so plan well and visit often.
